The projects created during the weekend

The Stockholm Resilience Center are facing many environmental challenges in their daily work. We have to be aware of that humans are literally shaping the planet. WeMapSocial allows the user in a very intuitive way to visualize data from Twitter and other social media on a map during a specific time-lapse by sliding a control. For instance, you can enter the word algal bloom and see where and what people have written about algaes along the coast of the Baltic Sea in June.

Floating Agora

Betahaus has been working on a test project to try to introduce Liquid Democracy in schools. Today they do not have a web based platform to use. With fresh eyes on the notion of Liquid Democracy, Floating Agora enables users to vote on proposals in a intuitive web platform. The users will have the possibility to create their own proposals, vote on them or give away their vote to someone else that they believe knows more about the issue. If Floating Agora would be used to actually decide matters in schools, the pupils would learn hands on about democracy in a whole new way.

The projects created during the weekend

Join Me!

Kompisprojektet aims to connect newly arrived immigrants with Swedes. They would like to expand their operation and are struggling to take the next step towards scalability. Join Me! is a web platform where participants input their interests and, by doing so, find other people (immigrants or Swedes) to meet for activities. The users themselves post activities at which they then exchange experiences and discover other cultures. Join Me! enables Kompisprojektet to drastically increase the number of Kompis matches.

Kid City

Upplands Väsby Kommun are having trouble reaching children/young people with information about support groups that are available for children/young people who grow up in dysfuncional families. Information about the support groups is available on the official municipal website but it is hard to find and uses a difficult language for kids. The solution is Kid City, a fun and teaching platform that appeals to children/young people in a whole other way than a municipality website do. It will be the natural place to go to when children want to connect and find out more on what is going on in their communities.

Come up with ideas at the event

We have invited inspiring speakers in different areas in need of change. They will talk about the challenges they are dealing with and then it is up to you to brainstorm and come up with ideas that could solve (at least partially) the problems with smart digital solutions. Speakers so far:

Stockholm Resilience Center - Environmental challenges on a planet shaped by humans

Crossing Boarders - Lack of gender equality in leisure activities

Betahaus - How can schools be more democratic?

The municipality of Upplands Väsby - Young people are having difficulties finding help for their psychological problems

Kompisprojektet - Challenges faced by migrants arriving to Sweden

Less stress coding more concept building

The participants will be divided in small multidisciplinary teams that will take on one of the challenges.

Throughout the event we will have IT professionals and entrepreneurs to back you up.

The goal with the weekend is not to stress code through the night, but to come up with a selling concept that could be the start of a new company.

The event finishes with the teams posting their idea on a crowdfunding site and presenting the results to eachother and potential investors invited to the event.

After summer we will have a follow up evening to see how things have turned out.
